How the estimate is calculated

Annual lighting energy is estimated as fixture count × watts per fixture × hours per day × operating days per week × 52 weeks, divided by 1,000 to convert watt-hours to kilowatt-hours. Estimated electricity-cost reduction is the difference in annual kWh multiplied by the entered electricity rate.

What the calculator does not include

  • Installation labour, lifts, wiring, controls, disposal, design, notifications, or equipment cost
  • Demand charges, time-of-use variation, taxes, escalation, or other utility-bill components
  • Changes in heating or cooling caused by different lighting loads
  • Control savings unless the operating-hour inputs already reflect the expected change
  • Maintenance savings, product life, warranty, financing, incentive, or payback assumptions
  • Verification that the proposed fixture provides suitable output, distribution, glare, colour, flicker, rating, or control compatibility

Use the result as a question, not a promise

A site assessment can replace assumed fixture counts, wattages, hours, and controls with information from the facility. The written option should state the assumptions used so decision-makers can evaluate the estimate.

What does the commercial lighting calculator estimate?

It estimates existing annual lighting kWh, proposed annual lighting kWh, the difference between them, and the related electricity-cost difference using the fixture count, wattages, operating schedule, and rate entered.

Does the calculator include occupancy-sensor savings?

Only when the proposed operating-hour inputs already reflect the expected control behaviour. A separate control estimate should state zone, occupancy, timeout, schedule, dimming, and override assumptions.

Does the result include installation cost or payback?

No. Equipment, labour, lifts, controls, electrical work, disposal, design, notifications, maintenance, financing, incentives, and other costs must be developed separately before payback can be evaluated.

Can the estimate be used as a savings guarantee?

No. It is a planning calculation based on the supplied inputs. Actual equipment, settings, operating hours, electricity rates, site conditions, and facility use determine the result.
